The beautiful thing about poetry is how we can communicate our pain to the masses and connect on a deep human level. Thank you so much for sharing this piece, and for the reminder that family is literally everything, and how much we need to cherish and relish every moment you're able to.
This is an absolute favorite of mine. It's so poignant, and I'm a huge fan of poems that come from a personal place and telling a story. I don't know your brother but reading this made me feel like I got a great sense of him. Lines like "You needed a shoulder, a hug, a hand. You felt displaced, like a seagull in the desert," really cut deep. The imagery and the tone of language is real craftsman-like as well.
Artistry aside, I hope you do feel at ease now.
